Dont turn on the system again. it may short out even more. Get a 2.5" HD enclosure, and then hook it up to a USB port.
You can buy an external laptop harddrive and put the hdd in to it and plug it into any usb port on a pc. You can buy these from most good pc shops

Take The Hard Drive Out And Set It Up To Another Computer
I’m not sure if you would be able to get any of the data without turning the computer on.
I would suggest that you take your computer to some type of computer repair shop that can help you to get this done.
Good luck and I hope I helped you!
Don’t turn on the computer until you get a tech to check it out.
Put the hard drive into a new computer. It should be fine, but no guarantees.
Within 5 days from the spill, do not turn on the laptop! After 5 days, may be the liquid will dry up.
Then, you can turn it on. I do not think you need to buy an external portable drive yet. If you can not turn it on, what good is the portable drive. If the wine dried up, you can turn on the laptop, then, you do not need to backup. Of course, if you wish to make a complete back up of your system and all data, you need to buy a external portable drive, may be 80GB, and backup software, then read the instruction to backup your data. If you are not familiar to all these, I suggest that you bring it to a repair shop after 5 days. Not to rush! If you rush, the wine is not dried yet, when the repair technician turns it on, the laptop will immediately have a short. Hopefully, the sugar in that wine is not too much. Too much sugar may stick on to the keys, ic board. Good Luck!
