I can't Boot From the CD drive. Despite me inserting my Recovery disc. What can I do to boot from the CD Drive?
I’m using Vista on a sony laptop. I recently bought it this year around April. Things started happening after I downloaded the the Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (update). But when I restarted, my computer never fully boots. The booting stalls, than shuts down. Then I have to take out the battery to get my computer back on, after trying this a few times. I’ve tried starting up in Last Configuration (boot stalls forever, then fails after being exhausted) , I’ve tried bootin in safe mode the screen just stays the same in the with crapy numbers and stays that way. I was told just inserting the recovery disc, that it should instantly boot from the CD, but it doesn’t. I’ve notice that the computer maybe trying to boot from the hard drive. Which could explain why the booting options fail. What do you do to start booting from the optical Drive?

Ok a common shortcut (but not always) is to press F11 right after you turn on your PC to bring up a boot-device menu which will enable you to select what to boot from. If that doesnt work for you, then go into your BIOS and look for your boot-sequence. Set CD-ROM as your first boot device. After that is set then any bootable CD you have inserted will boot.
Get into your BIOS and change the boot order so that optical drive (or whatever the BIOS lists as your CD drive) runs before hard drive.
I think you’re going towards the wrong direction. You have vista right. If you’re having booting problems when starting up, try inserting the Vista Installation disc, (press any key to boot when you first start up your computer) then click repair option when the menu comes up. And if you don’t have an installation CD (since I expect you said you’ve gotten a laptop with vista) heres a link where you can make one. Just download the program and burn it onto a CD

There are two two type of discs, 32 bit and the 64 bit. The 32 bit worked for me. Now this may take awhile, you might have to go through the repair process a couple of times, if the rebooting of the computer doesn’t work for the first time. After a couple of tries, it should ask if you want to restore your computer, if you back up your computer regularly, then you should be fine, but if you don’t, then you might as well anyway, better then nothing guess or I don’t know what else to tell ya. But if this Installation disc doesn’t seem to work for ya in general, then I suggest you ask for professional help, or go to a computer shop or something. Anyway I hope what I say helps, I wish ya luck dude
