I need to make a recovery disk?
i have the windows Xp service pack 2 CD. and i think its supposed to be able to let me make a backup/recovery disk, but i dont know what exactly im supposed to do to get the recovery disk working. i have all the office stuff already and i think i had a backup thing on my computer ( a toshiba) but i accidently deleted it.. thanks for your help
i have went to the start panel and went to tools but backup is not there..i think i might have deleted it..
i tried the second nt…exe thing..a message came up saying that it couldnt be found..
i actually called toshiba and the lady said that i would actually need to redo my whole hard drive or something of that nature…which means i will lose every thing i have on my computer except C drive stuff i believe…is there not a program out there that lets you just back up your own files, etc?

There are many programs that let you backup all of your files. One example of a good one is Norton Ghost 10. Keep in mind that depending on the size of your files (and number of them) you may need to acquire an external hard drive to back the files up to. Once you have safely backed up your files, then just use the CD’s to format and reinstall everything on your computer. But the other thing i would mention is that windows xp service pack 2 cd’s are different than the original recovery cd’sthat you had for your computer. Use the to Win XP cd’s will not restore that backup utility to your computer, because that was a Toshiba Utility. the only way to "restore" your system to its original factory settings would be to acquire a restore disk from toshiba.
search the help pages that came with your computer
goto start > accessories > system tools > backup
UPDATE:
goto start > run, then type ntbackup.exe. This will start the backup wizard.
UPDATE 2:
Are you running XP Pro or Home version? If home, some of these features may be disabled. Hit the F1 key on the desktop to bring up the help manu and search for ‘backup’. Then click ‘using backup’ in the left panel.
Also, are you an admin on your computer? Only admins and backup operators have backup rights.
If you can not use the one with your computer, then you could just back up your personal files onto a jump drive or burn them to CD. You would need to include your favorites, and your applications, as appropriate.
Remember that XP has a built in recovery partition, but that wont work if your hard drive fails.
