If I use the Windows recovery disc to restore Windows, will it delete files on the D drive of my hard drive?
Cannot get the OS to boot, says primary master drive fails.
Although the primary master drive (hard drive) is recognized by the system bios.
It looks like I will have to use the Windows System Recovery disc to boot the OS. I need to keep the files on the D section of my hard drive… will the recovery disc overwrite all of my files?

By selecting the proper HD and partition during the setup (you can tell which drive is which by its size, or model number shown in the windows setup) you should be able to avoid writing anything to the D: drive. The safest thing is to remove the D drive during the installation, and re-installing it once you have windows. If you attempt to install windows onto a drive when there are several drives, be cautious as sometimes windows will name the new partition something other then C: like D: or E. This can happen if windows recognizes your other hard drive as the C: drive, so be careful with it. That's why i recommend removing the drive altogether.

Yes, you will lose all your information if you reformat a drive. Make sure you back your files up on a CD, DVD, online or a flash drive. This includes all your settings, programs you downloaded, fonts, themes, images, music, etc.
do you have two hard drives or one hard drive thats partitioned?
If it is the Windows installation on the Windows CD, it will come to a screen where it shows your different partitions. (Which is where it will show your C and D drives). Ensure that you select to install on the C drive and your D drive should remain intact.
Yes , but you can recover them with one of these.

take the harddrive off, hook it up to the case, connect to antoher pc, recovery what you need, put back into old pc and install windows again.
D: drive is the recovery partition for restoring your computer = C: drive. It will not write to D drive during recovery.
You will not loose anything from D drive it has to stay in tack for restoration of your system.
