Microsoft Word file recovery in Windows XP?
I’ve searched everywhere I know to look on my computer for Microsoft Word documents from about a month ago, but it looks like I deleted them from two folders where I had copies. I’m REALLY needing to find these files if possible so I can invoice a client for an editing job. Is this possible in XP, or should I jump back to Windows ME on my desktop model?
Need to recover lost data? We deliver fast and secure data recovery with our downloadable software!
I am not sure how jumping back to Windows ME is going to resolve the problem?
Did you try a "Search" through Windows? (Start > Search). Use the advanced options and search for unusual or unique words that were contained in your documents? This will help you find it if was inadvertantly saved under a completely different name for some reason. Sometimes they can be saved some place that you would not think to look?
I assume you have checked your recycle bin?
Finally, you might want to try a utility such as Undelete Plus (free) (http://www.undelete-plus.com/) - which can search your hard drive for deleted files that have been emptied from the recycle bin. Sometimes, if you can recover documents this way.
However, if you regularly perform disk defragmentation, you may be less likely to recover the file, because it would have been more likely to be overwritten by relocating fragmented files.
There is a few demo programs on Download.com that will let you know if they can recover your deleted files, if they can, they will charge you. OnTrack is a good one. Otherwise, I would suggest consulting a local data recovery expert for a qoute.
Have you checked your recycling bin? That is the first place I would check.
Then go to microsoft word and type in the question about the file. ask MSW to help you locate the file.
