Recover Deleted Files?
I have had a file that I can’t download anymore, but it got deleted a good while ago. I used 2 different file recover programs, but neither of them found it, but they did find hundreds of other things I deleted long before then. Any answers to this?

If it was deleted "a good while ago" but in contrast you did find a other things deleted "long before then", it is due to that fact that computers write to the first "spaces" [usually those clusters that are marked by the system for deletion] it could find. That’s by design, so that you could save faster, write and read any file faster. Overwriting the clusters is not done sequentially [time-based] but rather randomly [first free space].
Unfortunately, maybe the "spaces" formerly occupied by that file was overwritten during your recent save [creating a document or installation of an application or defragmenting your file system]. Thus even if you tried different recover programs it could not do any recovery. The hundreds of other things deleted long before then could be recovered because the deletion marks were not yet overwritten by recent saves.
Files are saved in fragments on different clusters, and when you do a defrag, the system defrag groups these fragments into adjacent places . . . and that would have overwritten the former spaces occupied by recently deleted files.
Unfortunately, if you tried recovery programs but the file is not recovered, you can’t do anything else. If the file is that important, you could employ the commercial file recovery companies, but then again they could tell you that the file is unrecoverable because it’s already overwritten.
