I have a laptop that I’ve been trying to restore to its factory settings which is a Compaq Armada (I don’t know which one exactly) and it runs in Windows XP. I don’t have a recovery disk (except for the Service Pack) and I’m not sure if I’m capable of burning recovery disks. Does anyone know how to make recovery disks and/or restore it to its factory settings (step-by-step guide)?

I really want to just reset the whole laptop as if it was just bought brand new. And for some odd reason, the firewall settings cannot be found.

I restored my pc to factory settings and when i did i deleted some important files that i need for my work, i have been reading around and apparently there is a program that can locate files that have been deleted for months, even deleted by factory settinngs option you can still recover these files, i haved tried system restore and it only will let me restore to the date i restored my pc to factory settings, please help thank you

ok so the files i want to recover were on an external hard drive. when i was recovering my computer back 2 factory settings, i accidentally set the external hard drive to partition into to drives. it deleted literally everything on it. how can i recover that back up. please help me. i lost very important documents and files.

I own a Toshiba laptop, which, about 2 days ago, we used the product recovery program to restore it to factory settings, and we then re-installed everything.

After doing this, I have realised that we forgot to backup a load of files, and they have gone missing.

Those files just happen to be some of the most important files that we have.

Is there any hope of getting the files back? I would only like free software please.

Thanks in advance :)

My laptop’s hard drive is far too small anymore, and I’d like to install a larger one. I don’t mind formatting the old one or doing a clean installation for everything all over again. I JUST NEED MORE SPACE!!! I have a recovery disk for my laptop that has Windows XP Home and all my other factory settings on it. Will this work okay for a new installation?

I accidentally completely erased everything from my computer. I tried to do a system restore and restored it to factory settings. It is a compaq presario c500. I came across a product called search and recover, but I do not know if this is what I need. I also came across a product online called ontrack data recovery which sounds ok, but costs an arm and a leg. Is there anything out there that can help me get all my important information back?
What I did was a system recovery and not a system restore. Ant ideas?

I have Windows Vista Ultimate. My computer has slowed down considerably over the past few weeks and I wanted to completely reformat it. I have Windows recovery disks as well as hard disk partition. I booted the computer with the recovery disks in the DVD drive but the screen said that the disks are not made for this PC and the recovery process cannot be carried out. I am sure the disks were made by this PC only. How do I reformat my PC so that it is back to factory settings?

I didn’t create my recovery disk until I had the computer for almost a year. By then, I had added a number of programs. Everything I read about recovery disks indicates that your computer will be restored to the original settings. That assumes, however, that the recovery disk was created upon first obtaining the computer.

Will my disks recover the computer to the original factory settings, or will they also contain all of the programs that were on the computer when I created the disks?

Thank you for your responses!
