I had a lot of family pictures, job documents and music, the hard drive was formatted because it crashed so had windows xp installed again,(i had XP previously). I have not used it since,Is there a software i can use to recover all my data,or it cannot be recovered once it is formatted ?

I’m using Vista on a sony laptop. I recently bought it this year around April. Things started happening after I downloaded the the Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (update). But when I restarted, my computer never fully boots. The booting stalls, than shuts down. Then I have to take out the battery to get my computer back on, after trying this a few times. I’ve tried starting up in Last Configuration (boot stalls forever, then fails after being exhausted) , I’ve tried bootin in safe mode the screen just stays the same in the with crapy numbers and stays that way. I was told just inserting the recovery disc, that it should instantly boot from the CD, but it doesn’t. I’ve notice that the computer maybe trying to boot from the hard drive. Which could explain why the booting options fail. What do you do to start booting from the optical Drive?

about 3-4 days ago I deleted some photos from my recycle bin, I want to know how to get those photos back, the photos were imported from my camera and for some reason erased from my camera, and from my computer. I know its got to be on my hard drive, so what could I do. I’m really upset about this, it was hundreds of pictures from my various vacations!
actually they can be recovered. all of the people who say its impossible, LOL, its not its been done before.

i bought a secondary hard drive yesterday and i want to install OS on it just in case something happens to my primary my computer didn’t come with a vista disk when i asked customer service they said it was on a recovery partition. i dont know much about computers so i was hoping someone could help, i dont want to copy the information from the primary only the os.

I was using my Acer Aspire 5100 today when all of a sudden it shut itself off. It is now displaying the message 0200 fixed disk failure 0. From what I understand, this means that my hard disk crashed. Thankfully, my computer is still under manufacturer’s warranty (I bought it on 6/09/07 and the warranty is for a year.) so I know that they will probably replace the hard disk. But I understand that all files and "software" are probably lost. Does this mean that they’ll send my computer back sans Windows Vista and all of the basic software that the computer came with? When I bought the laptop from Circuit City they didn’t give me any recovery disks so if I have it serviced and they have to replace the hard drive, am I screwed out of Windows Vista and the basic software that came with the computer? Or will they reload any software that originally came with the computer under my warranty? Any ideas?

My laptop was messed up…So I thought I should do a computer recovery(im not computer savvy, so I’m not sure what I did or if I should of done it ) anyway…My computer seems like it is back to normal except I cant connect to my wireless router. In fact, I dont even see my old program that let me search for wireless networks in the area-it’s gone.
My router is a Linksys, would my best bet be to just call Linksys customer service and have them connect me? Or is there something that would be easier and less time consuming?
The geek squad at best buy left a disk labeled "customizer 351" in my laptop when they previously had itto change the hard drive. Could I use this disk to help me? Or should I return it?
Anyway, my laptop is a Gateway…um and I’m just trying to connect to my wireless router after I did a full system recovery or reboot or whatever it’s called….if you need more info then feel free to e-mail me…any help would be great since I’m stuck using the interenet at mylibrary…or drivign an hour to my mothers house to use her computer…please help!
Any clue on how to install the wifi driver?
is it involved with my recovery disk? haha I am just so confused, I probably should of left my laptop all messed up….
alright well I put in the disk to install that stuff but it says "error 302" and I remmeber that happening the first time I tried settting itup….I’m gonna have to call Linksys I suppose…

I’ve just bought Norton Ghost 14.0 for at harvey Norman and cant seem to find the expiry date anywhere, is there an expiry date just like a 30 day trial version? (its related to my product key right?) if you know where to look such as the Norton Ghost software program or on the packaging or manual please let me know.
Also how many times can the product key (that came with my version of Norton Ghost 14.0) be installed with full access to live update before the product key becomes useless?
Here is a question for a person who has actually dealt with Norton Ghost 14.0, I installed the Norton Ghost Software, entered Create a custom Symantec Recovery Disk CD (SRD CD) through the TASK tab, clicked next until it prompted me to insert the SRD CD, then click BACK until I arrived back to the task tab/page, so I didn’t complete the process to create the disk, now the option (Create a custom Symantec Recovery Disk CD) in the TASK tab is not there anymore, is there another way to get back into the Create a custom Symantec Recovery Disk CD option, I know the disc is just incase I lose the CD, so its not necessary. But the fact that option has dissappeared together with the long time it takes (8 seconds) for Norton Ghost 14.0 to complete loading it’s meter (at the startup of Norton GH) which states ‘Connecting and retrieving information from backup and recovery of services WINXP- ….’ ( probably due to the 3 recovery points i created on the same drive windows is installed along with everything else) would warrant uninstalling Norton ghost and installing it again. Any tips on fixing my two problems; long loading time and entering the Create a custom Symantec Recovery Disk CD option again? I have 160gb hard drive partitioned 80gb (C:\) and 80gb (D:\) whats the best practice procedures next time i installed use norton ghost for saving my recovery points?

i mistakenly deleted all files on my hard drive, due to huge data its dleted from recycle bin as well !

Technician said he could recover files from my damaged hard drive from software but leaves it in the raw format .ado file extension. Hopefully there is some software that can convert this back to something that can be opened.

I have a dell desktop computer and an HP laptop. The dell came with a windows reinstall disk, the HP did not. The HP has required a virus and a great deal of spyware. I’d like to format the hard drive, but I want to make sure its ok to reinstall windows on it with that dell windows reinstall disk. I feel like it should, but dell seems to have a way of making things proprietary. Thanks

I have this hard drive and when i hook it up the computer wont do anything but keep turning on and off! But the hard drive is fine its just that there are corrupted operating system files and i was wondering is there a way i can repair them since i hooked it up as slave? And i would like to not have to reinstall xp although i do have the xp disk and the recovery cds i would like to just use xp service pack!

About 3wks ago a gentleman answered my question about recoveing data from damaged or unformted CD’s. I forget the name, but I picked him as the best answer. Problem? My hard drive crashed and I lost the link to the website. If you are this person, be my savior once again and give it to me again. I did go to the site and bought the software, but haven’t received it, so I need to contact these guys. Thanks.

Hard drive crashed…Local estimate for 1600.00 ouch… any suggestions? They say it is dead, ie. hardware failure.

My computer crashed so I did a fresh install of windows. I had a bunch of pics on my hard drive that I did not back up. (stupid I know) Does anyone know of a way that I can recover those? Thank you.

I brought my hard drive from my old computer and slaved it as the D: drive. XP was already on the C: drive. But, XP crashed and totally locked up. I reloaded XP and it formatted the C: drive. Why did it format the D: drive when I told it C: drive FAT only? Now, how do I recover the data on the D: drive?

I have a Seagate 500 GB/7200rpm something or other hard drive that suffered trauma when the Macbook it was in hit the ground. The drive is like 2 years old. I sent it to Data Recovery Labs and they quoted 90 to recover the data. Surely there must be an alternative that *normal* people can afford? Any tips?
What do you mean by "freezing it"?
But can this be done if the dead computer can’t even be booted?

hi a friend spilt wine of her lap top that then fizzled!
the data remains on the hard drive, what is the easiest way to acces the data and then back it up.
i am reluctant to turn the system on again!
do i need any specail cables ?

So, my hard drive on my laptop died. It’s doing the clicking/not spinning up thing. I tried the whole freezer thing, yada yada…basically, I know it’s a mechanical thing and the only hope I have is to go to a data recovery service and get them to take out the data plates and put them in a new drive and recover the data. That said…I know that this process is expensive, but my data is important, and I have money. I am wondering just how expensive it is. I looked into it, saw some prices by the hour, and some "as low as !" prices, but does anyone have any "real" quotes? And if my hard drive is 80 GB and I only need maybe 5 GB recovered, will it cost less than getting the whole 80 recovered?
Just a note, I’m looking for dollar amounts, thanks everyone!

I accidentally formatted my office hard drive and recreated new partitions too. Now, I am messing with my disk to recover some important documents from previously existing partitions. Tried too many professional software in past three days to undelete my lost files.

Anyone can suggest the best data recovery software for me?

I did a clean install of Windows XP on my computer. But before the reinstall, there were image files on the hard drive that I would like to have if possible. Are they gone forever? Or is there some way of saving them?

i installed windows on my mac, but windows did something to my mac and i had to reformat the hard drive, and their are EXTREMELY important pictures that i want to get back,

but the trick is not to find a good data recovery software, the trick is to find the BEST data recovery software that can also recover .dmg files

thank u in advance

I recently got a new computer (dell), and after transfering all my data and deleting it from the old computer, the hard drive died and with it all my music, photos, etc. I want to try to get any files possible from my old computer, and want to find a good program for free or cheap that will let me try.

im getting a hard drive retrieved. Hopefully.. I was wondering what range they charge for it. Thanks!

I’m just wondering… How does data recovery work? Do people doing it take your hard drive out and run it through software? What can they find out? What kind of information is saved? How can I block personal information? Stuff like that…

i have windows xp service pack 1, home edition, compaq. i registry corrupted, so i cant boot in to the system. i wanna reformat the whole hard drive. i didnt make recovery disk before when i had the chance. i dont wanna try the registry fixing. i just wanna order recovery disks. suggestions?
