Let me explain. I am not trying to do anything illegal…really. The hd on my HP Pavillion laptop crashed. It was running Vista Home Premium which came with preinstalled. I have no recovery disk. Yes there is a recovery partition on the drive but nothing in it. I own a valid Vista key but cannot find anyone with an actual install disk. So….I fell back on the only thing I had….an old version of XP Pro from a previous employer. The key was valid then, not anymore. As such, windows will not allow me to update to Service Pack 2, which is keeping my laptop from doing many of the functions it is capable of! Suggestions?

I downloaded the Service Pack 3 to upgrade my computer (wasnt my idea..) and after it finished it messed up my computer..The first message stated my Boot.ini file was invalid..I eventunally gained access to my computer and tried to fix it..( at the time i didnt have my recovery disk) Then it failed..and said System32\hal.dll was missing or corrupt and to reinstall the file..I finally got a recovery disk..and I did lots of commands..Including..
Bootfix then cfg..and rebuilding..
System32\hal.dll expanding..
And lots of other various but similar commands..
I created a new patrition..with the recovery..It goes up to load to the LOGO screen..and then the logo disappears and the screen stays on but black..Im not sure what else to try for repairing..Could someone please help me

i have a Windows Xp Professional..Laptop

after using a recovery disk..the same problem occurs. When I get the black Windows screen with the blue bar at the bottom..it goes to a blue screen for half a second (can’t read it)..and then the laptop restarts. I can sometimes get it to load up by selecting ‘last config that worked’ only when it lets me get the selection page…or if I press F12 to select my harddrive so that it will work.

This happens frequently..but sometimes i’m able to start my laptop up with no problem.

I’m considering sending it to the a service provider since it is still under warranty. But if there is a way to fix it myself..i will

Hi right now I am running on windows 7 home premium. I was running on windows vista home premium but then upgraded. I made my recovery disks right after I upgraded to windows 7. I use a Toshiba A505. What happened was I had gotten my laptop back from the best buy service center and everything was working fine, I bought the windows 7 upgrade and installed it before this I made my 2 recovery disks because I used the dual layer but I was not able to make my application and drivers disk. After this I decided to upgrade to windows 7 anyway. I backed up all data and completed the upgrade. After this I though everything was working fine but it wasn’t. I Looked in my event viewer and had 600 error messages. I talked to the lady at bestbuy and she told me to make brand new recovery disks and then use those to downgrade to windows vista then upgrade to windows 7. So I made my disks but when I go to the os restore it asks for the system image which is the last disk and I put that it but it does not recognize it. Please help me

i recently purchased a HP Pavilion DV3-4038ee laptop and had to format C drive to install 32 bit Win 7 (laptop came with 64bit Win7 HP). Now, after installing Win 7 and downloading the recovery manager from HP, i tried but cannot create a recovery disk for my laptop’s OS and software. Please help me out as the local HP service center is charging an exorbitant fee for sending me a recover disk (which by the way should have been provided with the laptop itself).
It’s very sad to discover their service is sooooo bad.
Please help me… ANYONE.

So last week, I got my new HP Pavilion dv4t laptop. I charged it, and when it started up I got this message:

Status: 0xc000000f

Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.

and it tells me that i need to install the windows disk and restart the computer and all that…

so i call customer service and they send me the recovery disk for windows 7, which i got yesterday. I put the disk in my laptop today, and I’m still getting the same message. Any ideas what’s wrong? Thank you!

I have the windows 7 on cd and i also change in BIOS the priority boot on the external/removeable hard disc but dooes not appear when i start the laptop. I tryed to make sistem restore and recovery disc (i download an iso and i have it on the cd). I made also a clean disc. Is nothing working… now it doesn’t go in the safe mode.
Is any solution to solve otu my laptop without taking it to the service?
First i don’t know what is a bootable disc and where i can find it in my laptop, and second i don’t want to start to open my laptop cause after i will lose the waranty…
yestarday i start in comand prompt chkdsk /f and is in the stage 3 of 3 insterting data atribute… what i need to do after this is finish? shall i put in a recovery disc or my laptop will be ready after?

I have System Recovery Disk for Latitude D600 laptop. Can I use this disk to restore another Latitude D600 with different service tag? If yes, what happens to the Windows XP CD-Key license? Is the CD-Key associated with any Recovery disk? If not what CD-Key will show up after recovery?

Many thanks

I have a Dell inspiron i1545 laptop and i would like to create recovery disk/s the computer is using windows vista home premium Service pack 2 32 bit operating system. I would like to know what program to use to make the recovery disk. I have been looking at almost all the programs on the computer and the only thing that i see is the Backup and Restore application in the Backup and Restore center. Not for creating any sort of recovery disk. Any information is appreciated.

I have another computer A Hp compaq CQ60-615DX Laptop and i already created the recovery disks for the computer it only took 3 since i used a DVD+R so it took less disks to create. The thing is there was a program for me to use but i can’t find a Recovery Program for my dell computer in the list applications again any information is highly appreciated.

I got a new laptop and was giving my old computer to my brother. So I deleted my files since I had transferred all my important files (papers, music and projects) from the second harddrive in my old computer to an external harddrive for the new laptop. However, I recently dropped my external harddrive and after researching, it seems like there’s very little chance I can recover all my files from it. I was wondering if a System Restore on my old computer would be able to recover the files I deleted from my second harddrive?

ok. I need to reinstall my OS (windows Vista 32-bit) but i do not have my recovery disc that Dell sent me when I purchased my laptop. My warranty has expired. What i am asking, is will Dell send my another disc? I have read forums that said if u call them, that sometimes they will and sometimes they wont. But i didnt know if an expired warranty made any difference. I have tried all options to fix my laptop, but I need to reinstall the OS. Any suggestions?

i bought my laptop 2 weeks ago. I very happy with my laptop, but after a week i mess up something on my windows. How do make it go to back the way it was when i first bought my laptop. I want it 100% exactly the way it was when i first time starting up my laptop. The custom service told me that my hardware can do this besides using recovery disc. How do i do it?

hi i think that i virus deleted all of my files like photos, word documents etc from my laptop, i though that somehow the disk was reformatted but the weird thing is that all the programs that i downland like ares, msn messenger, etc still there. is there any way that i could recover my photos? its like the most important thing there..

I have a Toshiba Satellite A135 laptop. It has Windows Vista as the operating system. It is two years old.

In March of 2009 it started to act up. It would randomly lose browsing capabilities (firefox and internet explorer) after 30-60 minutes of being browsing. I could still use msn messenger. I think at that time pinging also worked fine. I would get this message: A cable is not plugged into the network adapter "Local Area Connection" or "www…whateverwebsiteIwastryingtoaccess" is not set up to establish a connection on port "World Wide Web service (HTTP)" with this computer. The only way to be able to browse again was to restart the computer.

I have tried disabling all add-ons. I’ve tried having windows repair it. I can’t remember if I’ve tried anything else.

Anyways, it seems to be getting worse, and I’ve also had Windows shut down unexpectantly and Explorer stop responding. Also, now when I lose browsing capabilities pinging the websites I was trying to access often does not work because it takes too long.

I use Zone Alarm and AVG. I have uninstalled and reinstalled AVG and apparently there are no threats or viruses.

Shuting down ZoneAlarm or AVG does not fix the problem.

Should I use the recovery disc? Will it help or should I just buy a new laptop?
I don’t understand the cable thing. Is it talking about an actual cable, because that happens when I’m only using wireless networks. I don’t have to be connected via ethernet or some other means.

—this message:A cable is not plugged into the network adapter.. tells me you need to check connections with router/ modem. could be lose or gone bad try to replace with another cable to see if that is the problem
I last defraged in July, but I tried to do it again the other day. It ran all night and wasn’t done in the morning (over 8 hours). I figured it would never finish so I cancelled it.

Can I recover deleted files off my Nokia N73? I accidentally deleted all my images and videos! They were all saved on my memory card. What software do I use to recover them? Pleeeeeease help me!
I can’t insert the memory card into my laptop because it doesn’t fit and I’m not looking to buy an adapter. Please help!!

I don’t have any problems with my system, I just want to improve it’s performance. I lost my HP recovery discs and I’m not in North America where I purchased my laptop. It’s impossible to get any service here for my Pavillion because it is North American and the HP centers here won’t help. Thanks for any help.

I have a sony Vaio, which never came with an installation disk.
I just had to have my western digital hard drive replaced by warranty.
My vaio recovery disks will not work this time around due to a bigger hard drive, but they did originally in 2008.
Being told motherboard may be dead, but bios runs fine.
Where can I get a windows XP installation cd, as I have a valid key code on my laptop, but sony offers no free service

My problem is I upgraded to windows 7 and before the trial ends in august I would like to be able to convert back to vista.

I have an external hard drive. Also I have other computers in the house hold. My vista came pre-installed on my laptop.

I was using my Acer Aspire 5100 today when all of a sudden it shut itself off. It is now displaying the message 0200 fixed disk failure 0. From what I understand, this means that my hard disk crashed. Thankfully, my computer is still under manufacturer’s warranty (I bought it on 6/09/07 and the warranty is for a year.) so I know that they will probably replace the hard disk. But I understand that all files and "software" are probably lost. Does this mean that they’ll send my computer back sans Windows Vista and all of the basic software that the computer came with? When I bought the laptop from Circuit City they didn’t give me any recovery disks so if I have it serviced and they have to replace the hard drive, am I screwed out of Windows Vista and the basic software that came with the computer? Or will they reload any software that originally came with the computer under my warranty? Any ideas?

I have bought Sony vaio - VGN-FS415B from UK 10 months back. I lost my warranty card as I was travelling a lot. Without this, I can not register my product with Vaio and without registering I can reach Support. I am in a dead lock.
1 month back, my vaio got crashed and forcfully I had to reformat the disk but I need to use my warranty facility to restore it back to factory condition. Another unfortuenate thing is I had not made recovery disk as well. Sony is the only stupid company whcichw ill not give us a recovery adisk ask users to preapre on their own.
Please understand my situation and help me to know from where I can get my vaio warranty number. On the laptop I could see only Service tag , SL Number and Windows License Key…but not warranty.

I made recovery disk for my windows vista home basic last year and tonight i wanna recover my laptop and when i restart my computer with the disk inside, the recovery disks dont load, help me please

My laptop was messed up…So I thought I should do a computer recovery(im not computer savvy, so I’m not sure what I did or if I should of done it ) anyway…My computer seems like it is back to normal except I cant connect to my wireless router. In fact, I dont even see my old program that let me search for wireless networks in the area-it’s gone.
My router is a Linksys, would my best bet be to just call Linksys customer service and have them connect me? Or is there something that would be easier and less time consuming?
The geek squad at best buy left a disk labeled "customizer 351" in my laptop when they previously had itto change the hard drive. Could I use this disk to help me? Or should I return it?
Anyway, my laptop is a Gateway…um and I’m just trying to connect to my wireless router after I did a full system recovery or reboot or whatever it’s called….if you need more info then feel free to e-mail me…any help would be great since I’m stuck using the interenet at mylibrary…or drivign an hour to my mothers house to use her computer…please help!
Any clue on how to install the wifi driver?
is it involved with my recovery disk? haha I am just so confused, I probably should of left my laptop all messed up….
alright well I put in the disk to install that stuff but it says "error 302" and I remmeber that happening the first time I tried settting itup….I’m gonna have to call Linksys I suppose…

I have Reinstalled windows xp on my laptop using a recovery disk how do I install Service Pack 3, My laptop has sp2 on it

I have a laptop that I’ve been trying to restore to its factory settings which is a Compaq Armada (I don’t know which one exactly) and it runs in Windows XP. I don’t have a recovery disk (except for the Service Pack) and I’m not sure if I’m capable of burning recovery disks. Does anyone know how to make recovery disks and/or restore it to its factory settings (step-by-step guide)?

I really want to just reset the whole laptop as if it was just bought brand new. And for some odd reason, the firewall settings cannot be found.
