I have a dell desktop computer and an HP laptop. The dell came with a windows reinstall disk, the HP did not. The HP has required a virus and a great deal of spyware. I’d like to format the hard drive, but I want to make sure its ok to reinstall windows on it with that dell windows reinstall disk. I feel like it should, but dell seems to have a way of making things proprietary. Thanks
I am on Vista, so it has to be vista capable.

problem" pops up, but when I check it on my laptop, which is right behind me, it works fine. I lost everything on this one yesterday and had to start from square one by using a recovery disk. I updated with windows service pack 2 and other than that I don’t know what I should do to get it back to where it was before the virus shut it down.
Thanks for any info.

i was trying to delete a virus when i noticed a lot of files being deleted after. i stopped everything and found a lot of my files deleted. is there anyway i can recover these files? this happened yesterday.
My Mom just bought a new computer & gave me her old one. This one is probably over 5 years old. She likes to download lots of music, videos, games & other stuff so it’s kind of slow. I tried uninstalling programs, but it’s still slow, it freezes & does this critical error warning sound for no reason, so I was thinking of doing a full system restore. She had a virus a couple of years ago & had her computer serviced by Nerds on Call. The computer is an emachines Windows XP, model #T3985, 340 Intel Celeron D Processor 340, 80GB hard drive, DVD+/-RW 16x Double Layer Drive, 512MB, 2.93GHz
She didn’t have any of the paperwork or a system recovery disk, so I was wondering will it work if hit F11 & do a full system restore or since it has been serviced by a company other than emachines will it do more damage than good? I don’t really want to have to spend more money on the computer since it is working, so I’m trying to figure out what is the simplest way to get it back to the way it was when she bought it or is that even possible? Since it has been serviced before does the full system restore option even work anymore?
So, my computer was not working for the last 2 days, probably due to a virus or something. Anyways, all my documents, songs, files, etc. were deleted. Is there a way to recover them all?
Thanks and God Bless
Sorry, i really don’t know much about this stuff and would appreciate some help!
I had a virus on my laptop last year, so i bought vista and installed it. (i didn’t have the recovery disk with me at the time).
Anyway, im having problems again, and i was wondering whether i could use the recovery disk that came with my laptop this time to reinstall vista? …the copy of vista i bought seems to have gone AWOL! Nightmare!

help would be greatly appreciated!
It is a virus thing of some sort and I need to get rid of it. Right now it is in the task bar as a red circle with a white ‘X’ and has a pop up every few minutes. I exit it out, but it still pops up and I don’t know how to get rid of it. Is there any free way to get rid of it?
I need to recover about 40 GB. Most programs will not recover that amount of data for under 0. I’m a musician and lost about 6000 songs from my library due to a virus.
So i have a virus on my laptop and was told i should buy a recovery disk and it would get rid of it. i have a 5610z Acer Aspire and i have Vista. Any help would be great!
I reinstalled windows because of a virus and thought my files were stored but now I can’t find them. Is there a free data recovery software out there that I can download to get my files back? Or is there someplace I should look to find these files?
This is assuming the computer was virus free when I made the recovery disk.
If the answer is no, then can I fdisk my entire hard drive and reformat, then reinstall windows from the recovery disk?
I have a Sony Vaio, i’m sure it has a virus on it but I can’t repair it if I can’t restart it the computer. I tried going to safe mode and all it does is start all over again trying to reboot it’s self. The recovery disk is useless every-time it tries to recover or restore an error message pops up. I’m trying to hold off on going to the professionals hoping some of you guys can help, thanks!
I got my computer 6 months ago, but I think i got a virus already. I can't start my disk defrag and it won't let me do a system restore anymore as well. I made a couple of recovery disks for windows vista, but not sure how to do it. Can you only do a system recovery once? Is it to early to wipe out my system clean because it's only been 6 months?
I think I might have downloaded a virus. So after doing a system recovery all was well so I thought. I have my computer set with different accounts for each family member (My son, wife and myself). My account and my sons account are fine. My wifes account lost all her files, pics and videos. She was using the administrator account.
IS there a way to recover the pics and movies?
I tried doing a file search but all that comes up is pics in my folder or my sons. I was told that most likley my pics and such are ther its just a matter of finding and recovering them can anyone help?
