I updated to Microsoft Service Pack 2, when I came home the next day my computer had restarted and said that there was no hard disk.

I tried the windows xp recovery and it couldn’t find any drives and then I tried to reinstall XP and it said there were no hard drives found!

so i have no computer now

What may have happened and is there a way to get it back?!
I have never ‘opened’ my computer and I live alone so Im sure no one else could have done this.

I’m trying to fix my little brothers computer, so im trying to use my windows xp recovery cd but some reason it doesn’t work. I restarted the computer with the cd inside but nothing shows up.

Please where can I download a windows xp recovery disc. I have no time to buy this program. I have tried using microsoft website,bittorent, and limwire. Please send me a link I am using my computer so I will need to burn it on a disc. Please give me instructions because I’m not good with laptops and computers.

so im making my gaming comp like next week and i have all the parts besides the operating system, but i have recovery disks from my old comp, so i was wondering when i put my computer together can i just insert my windows xp recovery disk to install xp on my comp instead of wasting 100$ on an OS?

I have a laptop (Vaio VGN-Y18GP) and I am trying to run the windows XP recovery on it.

I have a recovery DVD that came with my laptop, I insert it into its external CD-Rom , it says if you want to recover your laptop, restart your computer with the DVD inserted. I did it several time but nothing happened. Every time I restart it, again windows comes up and there is no message for recovery or things like that.
