However, your Acer should have a recovery partition that you should be able to access as one of your boot options unless your hard drive is what crashed. I tried to use WinXP recovery CD's from my HP laptop on my in-law's Compaq desktop and it would not work although the computers were built by the same company. A recovery cd is proprietary to the computer it comes with.
